I had been planning on buying a new camera for several months now, and as of January I knew exactly what I wanted and how I was going to get it. It took a while, but I was finally able to purchase it and it came in the mail on Saturday! Basically, if you booked a session or wedding with me between January and two weeks ago, thank you! The more business I get, not only do I get the chance to grow as a photographer, but I get the opportunity to upgrade my equipment (which in turn, helps my photography.) I had a lot of practice with my D40 and I still love it for being my first DSLR, but I am so proud to now own a professional Nikon D700. A new camera won't change my shooting style or automatically make me crazy-talented, but it will definitely take my work beyond what my D40 would let me do. This camera is more powerful and will allow me to explore so much more. I am really excited, if you can't tell! It was a scary purchase, but I don't regret it even a tiny bit. If you've really spoken to me about my ambitions in wedding and portrait photography, you may know that I can sometimes get impatient because I dream big about everything in life. But this is another step in the right direction and hard work pays off. I bought a new lens too.. it's actually the one pictured on the D700 body below. It's the 50mm f/1.4 and I love it. I just bought some CF cards for it and am ordering a new card reader today.
I just wanted to share with everybody because I'm so excited, and I really want you all to know how much your support means to me. It can seem kind of silly, but every kind word helps push me to be what I want to become. It is so easy to give up on yourself and encouragement is what we all need. I know I say it a lot, but I don't know how else to really thank everyone who keeps referring people to me, but to just keep saying it. I swear, every single comment or "like" on the Cristy Angulo Photography facebook page brings a smile to my face. Every single one. Getting a phone call or e-mail from a bride who wants a consultation is the highlight of my week! No joke. Ask Chris about how I get butterflies in my stomach about it. I really do. This is just what I love. And I know I have so much to learn. I have Nichole Chavez to thank for being so patient with me and just plain being a great friend and mentor. It sometimes feels like it's been a long journey, but it's really just the beginning.
